The North Huangbian Road-East Helong Road section of the Yuncheng Northwest Extension, an arterial road in Guangzhou's Baiyun district, was opened to traffic on Aug 1, marking the full operation of the Yuncheng Northwest Extension.
The 1.1-kilometer Yuncheng Northwest Extension was built with an investment of 656.94 million yuan ($97.23 million). It stretches from East Helong Road in the south to Phase III of the Huanan Expressway project in the north. With a designated speed of 60 km per hour, the road has two-way eight lanes in most of its parts and two-way 10 lanes at intersections to ease traffic congestion.
The road will effectively relieve the surrounding traffic pressure, improve the quality of urban functions, strengthen the district's north-south traffic connection, as well as facilitate the travel of residents.
It will also play an important role in the reconstruction of urban villages along the road, as well as regional economic development.
