On June 5, World Environment Day, Baiyun announced the results of a survey on bird species living within the district. The survey identified an additional 28 species, highlighting the district's rich local bird population.

Compared to the survey records in 2017, there has been an increase in Baiyun's bird species. This year's survey adds five second-grade nationally protected species, including silver pheasants and kestrels, as well as four key protected species in Guangdong province, such as intermediate egrets.

In recent years, Baiyun district has implemented a series of measures to develop the Baiyun section of the waterfowl ecological corridor in the Pearl River Delta region. Since the beginning of 2023, some 149 injured and lost animals have been rescued and protected by the Baiyun government.

To date, significant results have been achieved regarding Baiyun's protection of wild animals and plants, local media outlets reported on June 7.
