The groundbreaking ceremony for the Nanhu Amusement Park transformation project, a key construction project in Guangdong province, was held in Guangzhou's Baiyun district on July 1.

The transformed park will be positioned as a space-themed metaverse amusement park, which integrates immersive entertainment, sports, leisure activities, and science fiction technology.

The project has a total investment of 500 million yuan ($77 million) and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024. It is expected to open to the public on New Year's Day in 2025.

The project is a vital catalyst for Baiyun district's goal of building a 1-billion-yuan-level cultural tourism industry cluster. Once completed, it will effectively kick-start the overall commercial atmosphere of the Nanhu area, which has been dormant for many years.

The park is also expected to become an innovative playground that integrates the cultural tourism industry with digital creativity. It will become an essential component among the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's world-class tourist destinations.
