On May 5, the men's doubles team of Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang from Baiyun district, Guangzhou, defeated a formidable Indonesian duo with a score of 2-1 in the finals during the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup World Badminton Men's and Women's Team Championships.

This marks Liang's second world championship title, showcasing the emerging strength of the new generation of world-class badminton players. Liang, a badminton standout in Guangzhou, started playing the sport before the age of six and has become the ninth world champion in Guangzhou badminton history after years of training and competition.

He has achieved honors in competitions like the Sudirman Cup, demonstrating his remarkable prowess. Liang and his teammate Wang Chang will continue to compete, with their next target being the men's doubles gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Liang's growth would not have been possible without the support of his hometown and training base, with the people of Baiyun and Guangzhou cheering him on. This victory signifies Guangzhou's resurgence as a badminton world champion after 15 years of efforts, further bolstering China's badminton legacy.
