Recent progress has been swift in the project, marked by milestones like the completion of the main structure of the underground tunnel and the topping out of the parking facility in the non-shared area. The GTC project envisages the incorporation of six high-speed rails and three intercity rail lines, elevating the status of Guangzhou as a globally recognized integrated transportation hub. This initiative aims to promote seamless connectivity within the Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao Greater Bay Area, with the goal of establishing a world-class aviation hub.
As the project progresses, intercity railways such as the Guangzhou-Heyuan high-speed railway and the Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao high-speed railway will converge here.
Additionally, the Guangzhou municipal government has released the "Guangzhou Comprehensive Three-Dimensional Transportation Network Plan", envisioning the expansion of Baiyun airport to include three terminals and five runways, with plans for a new Baiyun International Airport T3 high-speed rail station, exemplifying integrated air-rail transportation development.
By the end of December 2025, the project is expected to meet aviation standards, positioning Baiyun International Airport as the world's largest single-terminal airport.
