Helong Reservoir thrives as eco-heaven in Guangdong
Located in Taihe town, Baiyun district, Helong Reservoir is a medium-sized reservoir primarily designed for flood control while also serving ecological irrigation functions.
Recently, Helong Reservoir passed the on-site evaluation for standardized management by a panel of experts from the Ministry of Water Resources, becoming the third reservoir project in Guangdong province to achieve such recognition.

Helong Reservoir, in addition to its primary functions, now boasts clear water and green shores, forming a picturesque ecological environment. The reservoir features a 3.7-kilometer scenic road and a reservoir-side ecological slow-walking system. This area beautifully integrates natural landscapes with cultural elements, resembling a garden-style reservoir.
In 2016, Helong Reservoir was upgraded to a secondary protection zone for drinking water sources in Guangzhou, leading to a significant improvement in water quality, with some areas meeting Class II water quality standards.
The Baiyun water authority responds to standardized management of water projects, enhancing management capabilities and standards. Through risk mitigation and reinforcement projects, soil and water conservation management, the area around the reservoir is now shaded by lush trees, fostering a healthy aquatic ecosystem.
Planting species such as phoenix trees and kapok trees along the reservoir, with shrubs interspersed and colorful murals adorning the hillsides, has created multiple scenic spots.
The 3.7-kilometer Taihe Scenic Road has become a popular destination for citizens to relax and exercise. It showcases the beauty of harmonious coexistence between people and water and offers a journey of healing through greenery.
