Yunxi Botanical Garden unveils to foster biodiversity
Yunxi Botanical Garden, located at the western foothills of the Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area, is set to open to the public on Aug 8. Spanning 35 hectares, it has been crafted over three years to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
The garden features five special areas where new flower varieties, water lilies , honey plants, rare plant and melastoma are on display for visitors.
It is home to over 1,300 species of native and rare plants, including 20 national first-class protection species and 25 second-class protection species. The garden houses 57 specimens of the critically endangered Huagaimu (Manglietiastrum sinicum), known as the "Panda of the Plant World."
The botanical garden offers visitors a unique experience of viewing valleys, tracing streams, enjoying gardens, and observing mountains. The garden integrates Lingnan cultural elements, featuring attractions such as the Rainbow Bridge and the Living Tree Pavilion.
This garden is also an educational hub with multiple nature trails and over 1,000 QR-coded plant identification signs. Visitors can participate in various educational activities, including plant exhibitions and nature observation stations.
It aims to provide a comprehensive cultural and recreational experience, combining plant science education with Lingnan garden culture, intangible cultural heritage, and modern creative arts.
