Olympic silver medalist returns home to Baiyun
On Aug 22, Liang Weikeng, returned to the Tangxi community in Baiyun district, Guangzhou, proudly wearing the national team uniform and carrying his silver medal from the Paris Olympics.
Liang expressed his gratitude, stating, "The encouragement from my hometown has always been my driving force. I will cherish this honor, train hard, and strive for better results to repay my country and hometown. I hope to inspire more young people with dreams to persevere and contribute to sports in our hometown."
In his first Olympic appearance, Liang, alongside his partner Wang Chang, won the silver medal in men's badminton doubles. Since 2022, Liang and Wang's world ranking soared from 444th to first in mere 16 months. They also won the men's doubles championship at the 2024 Indonesia Open.
Liang's achievements have earned him personal recognition from the Guangdong Provincial Government. The government honored the athletes and coaches who excelled at the 33rd Summer Olympics, awarding them for their contributions to the nation's sports dream and the China's dream of national rejuvenation.
Liang's rise from a local athlete to a world champion is a testament to his talent, perseverance, and dedication. He vowed to strive for excellence and bring more honor to his hometown.
