Guangzhou metro, intercity railway make significant progress
Exciting progress has been made on Guangzhou's metro and intercity railway projects.
The Guangzhou Metro Line 8 North Extension and the Fangcun village to Baiyun Airport Intercity Railway have reached key milestones, paving the way for improved connectivity and urban development.
The Guangzhou Metro Line 8 North Extension has advanced with its first station, Shuili Station, and is now entering the main structure construction phase. This milestone was achieved following the completion of the underground continuous wall concrete pouring. The extension, covering approximately 20.7 kilometers and featuring 11 stations, will connect Jiaoxin to Guangzhou North Station. This line will facilitate rapid transit between central Guangzhou to Baiyun and Huadu, promoting the development of new urban areas along its route.
The Fangcun village to Baiyun Airport Intercity Railway has completed the base slab structure of the shield tunnel shaft in the Baiyun to Xiamao section. This section, with a depth of 38.4 meters, is the deepest foundation pit in Guangzhou's karst area. The Fangcun village to Baiyun Airport Intercity Railway, stretching 41.1 km from Fangcun Station to Airport North Station, will feature 10 new stations and integrate with the Guanghua Intercity Railway for cross-line operations. The project aims to enhance connectivity across multiple districts, supporting the growth of urban complexes.
