Chinese wheelchair basketball player wins bronze at Paris Paralympics
On Sept 8, Lin Suiling, a wheelchair basketball player from Baiyun district, Guangzhou, led the Chinese women's wheelchair basketball team to a 65-43 victory over Canada, securing the bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics.
Lin Suiling, who scored 12 points and made 12 assists in the game, has been a key player for the Chinese team. This achievement marks the second consecutive Paralympic medal for the Chinese women's wheelchair basketball team, following their silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Born in 1991 in Longchuan county, Heyuan, Lin was diagnosed with polio at a young age, which led to her reliance on a wheelchair. Despite these challenges, she was selected by provincial and city Disabled Persons' Federations in 2008 and joined the Guangzhou women's wheelchair basketball team. By 2011, she became the captain of the Guangdong provincial team and joined the national team in 2013, where she has served as captain since 2018.
Lin's dedication and hard work have won numerous accolades. These include achieving a gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games and a fourth-place finish at the 2018 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships, where she was named to the All-Star team. Her outstanding performance at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Para Games, where she scored 26 points in the final, helped China secure the championship.
