New Baiyun school promotes environmental education
The Baiyun District Ecological Nature School recently opened in Guangzhou – capital of South China's Guangdong province – aiming to promote environmental education through a variety of activities such as science education and volunteer services.
Located in the Baiyun Yongtai Table Tennis Sports Park, the first group of students were enrolled on Oct 20.
They were offered unique eco-themed courses like the "Bird Watching Adventure" course, as well as the "Little Gardeners", "Insect Hotel" and "Forest Storytime" courses.
During the "Bird Watching Adventure" course, students, guided by science educators, explored the park to observe and record the behavior of birds. In the "Little Gardeners" course, students learned about plants and experienced the joy of gardening.
The "Insect Hotel" course allowed students to observe insects in their natural habitats, understanding their ecological needs. The "Forest Storytime" course, meanwhile, engaged the students with forest-themed storybooks – fostering ecological awareness and encouraging them to think about environmental issues.
The Baiyun District Ecological Nature School plans to collaborate with universities and industries to conduct both online and offline science education, ecological technology exhibitions and promotional activities – aiming to raise ecological awareness among citizens, especially young people.
