The test flight, lasting six hours and 15 minutes, thoroughly evaluated the runway's communication, navigation, visual aids, and overall flight procedures. The fourth runway, located west of the first runway, measures 3,400 meters in length and 45 meters in width, accommodating large E-class aircraft. This addition is expected to enhance the airport's capacity and operational efficiency.
The Phase III expansion project, with a total investment of 53.77 billion yuan ($7.55 billion), includes the construction of Terminal 3, two new runways, and a comprehensive transportation center. The project aims to support an annual passenger throughput of 140 million and a cargo capacity of over 6 million metric tons, establishing Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport as a major international aviation hub.
