Baiyun tourism sector booms during New Year holiday

Updated : January 5, 2026

Guangzhou's Baiyun district experienced an unprecedented surge in cultural and tourism activity during the New Year holiday, with key attractions in the district welcoming 834,600 visitors between Jan 1 and 3, an 80.51 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area led the way as the most popular destination, attracting 490,300 visits — a year-on-year growth of 115 percent — and served as the central hub for holiday traffic. The scenic area blended traditional and modern elements, offering a variety of events, including traditional music performances and music markets, creating a dynamic festive atmosphere.

Baiyun Lake Park and Guangzhou Children's Park attracted visitors with their water-friendly and family-oriented features; the newly opened historical and cultural creative zone, Pinghe Pawnshop 1917, engaged the public with interactive exhibits tracing the evolution of finance; and Maofeng Mountain Scenic Area launched activities like hiking, health consultation services, forest concerts, and intangible cultural heritage performances, encouraging visitors to welcome the new year amid nature.

Baiyun district has integrated its historical, cultural, and ecological resources with contemporary trends in recent years to develop a range of highly participatory cultural products, transforming tourism into economic benefits and positive word-of-mouth.

Visitor numbers during the holiday followed a typical pattern — peaking on the first day, remaining high on the second, and tapering off on the third — with overall attendance far exceeding the average levels of previous years.
