Nansha: China's largest port for rolling transport of vehicles

Updated: 2019-01-03

On Dec 27, the roll-on-roll-off ship Anji 21 was berthed at the newly completed Haijia Automobile Terminal, and a number of brand-new SAIC Roewe RX5s were slowly unloaded from the ship.

They lined up to spell out three numbers and two characters---“one million vehicles“, which signifies that the number of vehicles transported through the terminal has exceeded one million.

According to statistics, Guangzhou Port is expected this year to complete the loading and discharging of 1.32 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent. The port has become the largest hub for ro-ro shipment of commercial vehicles in domestic trade.

The Haijia Automobile Terminal will be put into trial production and integrated with the existing three berths in Nansha at the end of December 2019.

The new terminal covers a land area of 430,000 square meters and has 370,000 square meters for storage, enough for 20,000 vehicles.

With a terminal shoreline of 623 meters, the dock has three berths designed for car-carrying vessels. It is one of the largest professional car terminals in China with the best facilities.

Recently, Nansha Automobile Terminal won the “2017-2018 Annual Award for Zero Accidents” issued by NYK (a Japanese mail shipping company), which is one of the highest honors in the field of safety control of ro-ro terminals. Among many overseas terminals operated by NYK, Nansha Automobile Terminal was the only one to win the honor.

The auto brands of domestic trade currently loaded and discharged in Nansha Automobile Terminal include GAC Toyota, GAC Honda, GAC Trumpchi, Dongfeng Nissan, FAW Volkswagen Audi, GAC Fick, SAIC GM, SAIC Volkswagen, Beijing Benz, BMW Brilliance, Beijing Hyundai, BAIC BJEV, Chery Jaguar Land Rover, Geely, Great Wall, FAW Toyota, FAW Mazda, and Dongfeng Infiniti.

The terminal will provide such value-added services as warehousing and distribution, PDI, bonded exhibition, compliance and rectification, and handling guarantee for domestic and foreign trade brands.

In July this year, the Chery Jaguar Land Rover's shipping logistics and warehousing distribution project was set up in Guangzhou Port, and its vehicles uploaded from the Nansha Automobile Terminal are expected to reach 1,500.
