The year 2022 is the year of the tiger according to the Chinese zodiac. In Chinese culture, there are many idioms about tigers, which is pronounced hu in Chinese, and there are many places containing the word tiger in their names within Nansha district.

Located northeast of Huangge town, Xiaohu village is surrounded by the Shazai li and Xiaohuli rivers. It gets its name from a stone mountain in the village that looks like a tiger.

Xiaohu spicy shrimp, a distinctive delicacy of Huangge, which is renowned for its high quality aquatic products.

Dahu Island and Xiaohu Island in Nansha are like two gatekeepers on the Pearl River. They have historically been important Chinese military forts, hence why they are known by the name "Humen" or Tiger Gate.

More than half of the forts of Humen Fortress are located in Nansha district, and the famous Dahu Fort in the First Opium War was set up on Dahu Island in Nansha.

Humen Fort's old site was also designated a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council in 1982.
