Nansha Kayaking Base

Updated: 2022-03-22chinadaily.com.cn

Going rafting on the Jiaomen River by canoe or kayak is a popular choice for people to enjoy a unique and fun experience while doing some exercise.

Opened in 2011, Nansha Kayaking Base is the first water leisure sports base open to the public in Guangdong province. To date, more than 1.5 million people have visited the base.

There are many colorful boats alongside the Jiaomen River and it's common to see two or three people rafting down the river. While rafting might seem intimidating for first-timers, the kayaking base offers instructors like 2006 World Cup canoeing bronze medalist Zhang Qiguang.

"Determine your proper direction, hold the paddle with both hands, not too close or too far apart, and then push forward with your left hand," explained Zhang, who was also 1000m and 500m canoeing champion at the China Water Games in 2007.

Under the guidance of the coach, it doesn't take too long for people to get the hang of kayaking. In addition, each kayaker is given life jackets to wear and there are patrol boats to ensure people's safety.

Any fears quickly go away once people start kayaking, with their focus drawn on the beautiful scenery of the Jiaomen River!
