Updated: 2024-08-09Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office

On Aug 7, a delegation comprising representatives from multiple Nigerian media outlets arrived in South China's Guangzhou, aiming to look into different facets of the nation's modernization drive. The delegation paid a visit to the Nansha Planning Exhibition Hall and Nansha New Port, where they familiarized themselves with the development roadmap as well as the industrial layout in the area. Besides, they also experienced the latest AI-generated translation tools at IFLYTEK South China AI Research Institute in Nansha.

At IFLYTEK South China AI Research Institute in Nansha, Amarachi Ubani from Channels Television said that Africa is a huge untapped market for AI-generated technologies". I think AI translator is a great innovation, especially for conferences and seminars", she explained. "Once this catches on with the Nigerian population back there, it would blow out of proportion". She imagines dozens of scenarios in which Nigerians could apply AI.

Babajide Oluwunmi Leigh, a news editor from Silverbird Group, noted in an interview that he celebrates the successful cooperation between Nigeria and China. "These cargoes and products have been brought into Nigeria, and this has been working for the past few years and it's been successful. And this has also ensured that these trades between Nigeria and China continue to go on smoothly as they should". He also expected that the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be a venue for several business agreements to be signed, fostering Nigeria-China relations.

"I was thrilled to see the city planning here in Nansha", said Charles Udeogaranya, a senior Nigerian journalist after his visit to the Nansha Planning Exhibition Hall, "and it is interesting to know that Nansha is one area that has international connections through air, sea, rail, and land". He thinks, blessed with a multi-faceted transport system in Nansha, the area serves as a wonderful spot that allows free flows of cargo, personnel, and capital. He also mentioned that they're looking at cooperation in agriculture and educational exchange programs.

As the 2024 FOCAC Summit is set to be held in Beijing from Sept 4 to 6, themed "Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future", the media delegation said that a higher level of all-round cooperation is expected by both sides.
