The first fruit export ceremony and industry exchange event batch were held at the Wanqingsha Agricultural Brand Demonstration Base in Nansha district on March 27.
Following the ceremony, 70 metric tons of Guangxi orah mandarin sealed in containers, set sail from Nansha for a five-day sea journey to Thailand, becoming the first officially certified export fruit from Nansha. This breakthrough opens up a new market and signifies a fresh integration of the Nansha Port's "fruit exports + cross-border e-commerce + cold chain logistics" model.
Situated at the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Nansha functions as a crucial hub for trade. Maritime transport serves as the predominant method for cross-border fruit shipments, facilitated by Nansha Port's comprehensive network of international routes. Supported by efficient customs procedures and a favorable business environment, Nansha has instituted targeted policies designed to enhance the global reach of agricultural products and promote foreign trade.
In 2024, Nansha recorded a significant increase in fruit imports, amounting to 5.44 billion yuan ($750 million), marking a 29.6 percent year-on-year surge. Notably, during the 2024-25 Chilean cherry season, Nansha Port welcomed 12 fast ships laden with cherries, unloading around 100,000 containers and 170,000 tons of this coveted fruit. This surge propelled Nansha Port to process 40 percent of the nation's cherry imports, solidifying its position as one of the premier cherry import hubs in the country.
