Guangzhou International Financial City in Tianhe district was included among the 12 industrial parks along the Pearl River to boost the high-quality development of the industry and information technologies sector, according to a guideline recently drafted by the city's bureau of industry and information technology.

Covering an area of nearly eight square kilometers, Guangzhou International Financial City is located in the geometric center of various key development platforms in Guangzhou. It is at the intersection of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong and the Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao innovation and technology corridors, the Pearl River coastal economic belt, as well as the Guangzhou sci-tech innovation axis.

It focuses on the development of digital finance, introducing domestic and foreign renowned financial institutions or regional headquarters. It will aim to develop digital culture by fostering a number of internationally influential animation and game brands, as well as e-sports programs. It will also boost the development of digital service trade, aiming to gather a batch of industrial and regional digital service trade brands and leading enterprises.

Currently, it has built featured buildings like the Southern Finance Building, Poly Financial Metropolis, and the Greenland City Center, attracting renowned enterprises like the Guangdong branch of China Pacific Property Insurance.

According to the guideline, Guangzhou International Financial City will boost the construction of 116 key projects during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), involving a total investment of over 180 billion yuan ($25.88 billion), and will achieve a GDP of 70 billion yuan by 2025.
