Tianhe offers entrepreneurial services for young people in heart of HK
Guangzhou's Tianhe district set up a one-stop entrepreneurship center on Tuesday in the bustling commercial zone of Tsim Sha Tsui to attract more young people from Hong Kong by streamlining cross-border government services and advertising the Chinese mainland's business environment.
The center is equipped with self-service terminals, featuring a remote virtual portal for the mainland's tax services. It offers over 500 government services including business registration and social security processing for Hong Kong and Macao enterprises.
"Our primary goal is to provide services on the doorstep," said Xie Changlin, a standing committee member of Guangzhou Tianhe district. "As this is the home for Hong Kong and Macao young people, it is designed to cater to the needs of the young generation, ensuring they feel at home."
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Xie said Tianhe district also aims to leverage this offshore startup center to enhance the understanding of the mainland's business environment among Hong Kong and Macao young people. It will publish guides on online platforms like YouTube and Facebook and share the success stories of young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Macao via live streaming.
Tianhe district is the economic hub of Guangzhou and is also known as the city's innovation and business center. Last year, its GDP topped 655 billion yuan ($92 billion), ranking first among the 11 districts in Guangzhou. According to Xie, it also boasts the youngest average population age, the highest number of business entities, and the largest concentration of coffee shops.
So far, the startup incubation center in Tianhe district has assisted some 600 companies founded by young people from Hong Kong and Macao in setting up and expanding business in Guangzhou. Among them, 28 companies have valuations exceeding 10 million yuan, with 16 surpassing the 100-million-yuan mark.
Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Bureau Clarence Leung Wang-ching said that Hong Kong will continue to leverage its position as a core city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, encouraging youth to seize the development opportunities within the region.
With a population of 87 million, the 11-city cluster's economic output topped 14 trillion yuan las year, according to data from the Guangdong Provincial Office of the Leading Group for the Development of the GBA.
Leung mentioned that Hong Kong's funding program for youth entrepreneurship in the GBA has successfully nurtured over 200 startup teams, with more than 70 of them having already settled in Guangdong cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai.
