Construction of new Tianhe hospital progresses

Amid the roaring of on-site rotary drilling rigs and excavators, drilling on the first test pile of the Zhuji branch of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University started on Oct 29, marking the project's commencement in Tianhe district of Guangzhou.

Occupying a 64,987 square meter site and a planned floor space of 198,450 sq m, the hospital is scheduled to have 1,000 beds and will cost a projected 2.09 billion yuan ($293.49 million).

The new facility is projected to be completed in January 2028.

Designed as a third-grade hospital, which ranks at the top of China's three-tier hospital grading system, it will integrate medical, emergency, prevention, rehabilitation, teaching and scientific research functions.

A public community health service center will also be built.

With women's reproductive health as its core and chronic diseases and rehabilitation as key aspects, the hospital aims to establish a platform for medical innovation and achievement transformation, comprehensively elevating the healthcare service capabilities in Tianhe.
