Shipai shines with folk parade celebration

The annual parade to celebrate the anniversary of North God, a water deity in Taoism, took place as scheduled on March 31 in Shipai village of Tianhe district.

The lively event showcased a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity that brought a unique vitality to this village adjacent to the Tianhe central business district.

Comprising 18 teams, the parade featured a diverse lineup, including the Shipai Lion Dance team, the Junior Dragon and Lion Dance Team of Shipai Primary School, and the Cantonese Opera Art Club of Shipai Primary School. Their lively performances vividly depicted the enchanting traditional folk culture of Shipai village.

Amidst the booming drums and crackling firecrackers, the parade attracted a crowd of onlookers along its route, immersing them in this grand cultural celebration.

Mrs Chi shared Shipai's folk tales with her granddaughter, Elsa, while they watched the parade. This was Elsa's first visit to the village from Canada. She followed the parade with great interest and said, "This is a blast! It is much more exciting than any amusement park!"

Having been deeply touched by last year's parade, Mrs Ren, hailing from Xinjiang, eagerly seized the opportunity to attend this year's event with her daughter. She expressed that engaging in this distinctive folk cultural celebration with her child provided a visual spectacle and stirred emotions deep within the soul.

Shipai village is preparing for a series of forthcoming events that include a blessing ceremony commemorating the birth of Mazu, the esteemed sea goddess. Additionally, the village is expected to host the Dragon Boat Festival and a village sports meeting. All are designed to enhance the spiritual and cultural lives of the local residents while continuously emphasizing the importance of Shipai's traditional culture.
