A delegation led by Tom Duke, deputy HM trade commissioner of the Department of International Trade (DIT) of the United Kingdom, visited the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone on July 28 to discuss further cooperation opportunities between the two sides in the health industry. 

Members of the delegations included people in charge of several British medical companies.

Liu Zhefeng, deputy head of the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, warmly welcomed the delegation and briefed Lecheng's current situation in areas such as preferential policies, industrial layout, institutional innovation and achievements made in licensed applications of globally advanced medicine and facilities. 

Liu said that currently, 15 medical institutions in Lecheng have started operations and the aggregation of other institutions' managing areas from upstream and downstream industries spanning after-sales services, research and development, international communication and training has formed an excellent industrial ecology. 

"I hope that more communication and exchanges can be carried out between Lecheng and British medical companies in areas such as real-world data research and introducing orphan drugs after the delegation's visit," Liu added.

Duke noted that the Hainan Free Trade Port enjoys board development prospects and Lecheng has obvious advantages due to its preferential medical policies. Many British medical companies have been looking forward to entering the Chinese market rapidly through Lecheng and the British DIT is willing to function as a bridge between the two sides. 

Mutual cooperation in the future in areas like experimental research of real-world data and the qualifications required for foreign doctors who want to work in Lecheng were also discussed.
