In the past few days when people are still immersed in the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival, the medical staff of Boao Super Hospital in Lecheng Pilot Zone have already switched to a busy mode, and they care for every patient's health with a good mental state in the face of an endless stream of patients.

Recently, Boao Super Hospital in Lecheng Pilot Zone completed another implantation of Micra AV, a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker, which was performed by Professor Wu Liqun, an expert of International Cardiology Center of Boao Super Hospital and the Department of Cardiology, Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

The patient had symptoms such as intermittent chest distress and fatigue without obvious inducement one year ago, and did not pay attention to these symptoms. Two months ago, he went to a local hospital for treatment because of obvious aggravation of symptoms, and was diagnosed with third-degree atrioventricular block. The doctor suggested implanting a pacemaker. In order to implant Micra AV, a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker, the patient came to Boao Super Hospital in Lecheng Pilot Zone.

After careful preoperative examination and adequate preoperative preparation, with the joint efforts of Professor Zhang Shu's team and Professor Fang Pihua's team, Professor Wu Liqun successfully performed Micra AV implantation for the patient.

Department of Cardiology, Boao Super Hospital

The Cardiovascular Department is one of the key departments of Boao Super Hospital, which is supported by three expert teams, namely the Huayi Xincheng Team led by Academician Ge Junbo, director of the Cardiology Department of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, the team of International Cardiology Center led by Professor Zhang Shu of the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the team of Shulan Cardiology Department led by Professor Fang Pihua.

The department is capable to perform a complete range of cardiac interventional diagnosis and treatment, including percutaneous coronary stenting, catheter ablation for various arrhythmias, implantation of pacemaker and defibrillator (ICD), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), etc.

On September 5, 2020, the world's smallest Micra AV leadless pacemaker developed and produced by Medtronic successfully completed its first clinical application in Lecheng Boao Super Hospital. On December 11th of the same year, the second operation was successfully completed, which marked the normalization of leadless pacemaker implantation in Lecheng Pilot Zone.

Micra AV is small in size, which is 93% smaller than traditional pacemakers (known as the smallest pacemaker in the world); contains a battery that can work up to 12 years; less invasive, with which patients can hardly feel its existence; leadless, providing high success rate of operation; and compatible with nuclear magnetic resonance, with which patients can safely receive 3.0T MRI scanning after implantation.
