Hongqiao passenger depot makes full preparations for travel peak
Hongqiao transportation hub put into action a contingency plan from Feb 13 to 15, after more than 20,000 passengers were expected to arrive at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station after 23:00 over the three consecutive days.
The Emergency Response Center, headed up by Jiang Xiaolong, deputy director of Hongqiao CBD Administrative Committee, set up a temporary office for the duration of the plan in order to deal with the logistics of the peak passenger numbers.
Other team members included representatives from related departments of the Hongqiao CBD Administrative Committee, the municipal public security bureau, police stations in and around the depot, the No 7 Traffic Police Squadron of Minhang district, Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao passenger depot’s Transportation Center Construction and Development Company.
All the members stayed at the ERC Hall to deal with emergencies during peak hours all night. Yang Xiaoxi, deputy director of the passenger traffic office during Spring Festival peak season and deputy head of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission came to guide the operation at the temporary office in the evening of Feb 14.
After analyzing the data and coordination with the transportion commission, the team decided to add more subway trains and taxis to ensure the timely departure of passengers and alleviate crowds. Meanwhile, all the transport operators at the depot were required to strengthen management and services on the spot, and all police in the area were urged to maintain order during the peak hours at night.
With the joint efforts of all units and departments, the passenger depot managed to deal with all emergencies. The group is busy making contingency plans for the upcoming Lantern Festival peak season.
