A design exhibition themed "What is Good Design?" ushered in the latest pop trends to Hongqiao Tiandi, a business complex in Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD) this October.

As there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes, so is the perception of good design equally subjective. The design exhibition, lasting from Oct 17 to 20, brought in works of 12 famed designers from five countries covering clothes, books and paper styling, and offered insights into the fascinating art of design.

The YCO Space exhibition area displayed creative clothing design by 12 elite design masters, including Zhang Yiqian, a young genius who has created works for big brands since his youth; Patric Wallertz, iconic designer in the field of functional fashion design; Fiona Lau and Kain Picken, best new designers of MagnificentSeven; Patric Wallertz, H&M designer and Sevenja Specht, founder of RealityStudio.

The PubliShare exhibition area created a space integrating reading, publishing, illustration and sharing. Many newly released art works were visually displayed in various formats, positively impacting visitors.

In the paper-themed pavilion, six graphic designers cooperated to air the endless possibilities within the art of paper creation, like letter paper, hand account and adhesive tape. This paper exhibit was an absolute delight for any fan of stationary.

The movie area provided several movies highlighting beautiful costumes design including The Danish Girl, A Single Man and A Bigger Splash.

Dieter Rams, German industrial designer, formulated his answer for what is good design into 10, now celebrated, principles. According to the event organizer, every visitor received labels featuring the numbers from one to ten upon entering. These numbers respectively represent Rams’ ten principles for good design.

Good design is innovative, makes a product useful, is aesthetic, makes a product understandable, is unobtrusive, is honest, is long-lasting, is thorough down to the last detail, is environmentally friendly and is "designed" as little as possible.

During the exhibition, visitors were asked to stick labels to certain works based on their understandings.

The exhibition was held on the ground floor of west No.3 Building, North Hongqiao Tiandi, and ended on Oct 20.
