Kumamon elates fans in Hongqiao

Kumamon, a bear mascot created by the government of Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan that has developed a number of fans globally, now invites you to his new home at Hongqiao Tiandi in Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD) on Dec 1.

From Dec 1 to Feb 15 next year, the exhibition of the cute bear will be staged at Hongqiao Tiandi. Various scenes will be restored to take you around the mascot's hometown, Kumamoto. There will be a wealth of photo opportunities and a diverse array of souvenirs for visitors to enjoy.

Kumamon was created in 2010 for a campaign to draw tourists to the region. The bear mascot soon became nationally popular, and as a result Kumamoto earned ¥11.8 billion (US $120 million, GB £79 million, €93 million) in merchandising revenue for the first half of 2012.

Scene 1: Farm

Kumamoto is a big agricultural prefecture in Japan where most watermelons in the country are produced. The farmer Kumamon will stay at his cottage in a strawberry garden waiting for group photos with all of you!

Scene 2: Sea

Apart from the countryside scenery, Kumamoto also rests beside a beautiful ocean with multiple marine products. Wearing a grass skirt, Kumamon invites you to join the angling party.
