The Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center, a major medical integrated area in the Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD), has started trial operations in the area with the running of the Shanghai Everjoy International Medical Center.

Featuring most advanced medical services in the world, the medical center has a planning area of 100 hectares (1 square km). The first phase of the project with an investment of 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) is scheduled for completion by the end of 2020, and will have a medical techniques center, seven top hospitals and other distinctive clinics.

Shanghai Everjoy International Medical Center, the first medical institution to be opened in the area, will have 23 clinical offices specializing in 42 distinctive medical fields. Endoscope and noninvasive surgery are the hospital's featured services.

Differing from other medical institutions, patients will be able to handle everything simply from the examination room, from registration to medication, instead of hurrying from one place to another within the grand hospital.

To date, a pediatrics and maternity hospital have begun construction. Another, the Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, is expected to begin trial operations by the end of 2017.
