Construction on the new Huzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) began in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 28, according to local media reports.

The hospital's new site is west of Anji Road, north of Qingtai Road, and east of Changxing Road.

It will cost more than one billion yuan ($144.9 million) and has a planned floor space of 145,627.1 square meters.

Founded in 1957, the Huzhou TCM Hosipal is a class A tertiary hospital – the highest class in China's grading system for hospitals – that integrates medical treatment with teaching and scientific research.

In recent years, the hospital has been unable to meet demand due to its small size.

The new hospital will be composed of an outpatient complex, an inpatient complex, a training complex, and an administrative building. It will offer a total of 800 beds.

Construction on the new hospital will finish in 2024, improving the city's TCM service capacity and better meeting the TCM needs of residents.
