A research institute jointly funded by Zhejiang University and the Huzhou municipal government was recently inaugurated in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, according to local media reports.

Huzhou and Zhejiang University have been cementing bilateral ties in recent years since the establishment of their partnership in 2006. In August 2020, the two sides reached an agreement to construct the research institute in Huzhou.

A spokesman from Zhejiang University praised Huzhou's strong vitality in innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as its excellent government services for talents, lauding the city as a hotspot to start up a business.

Situated in South Taihu Lake New District, the newly established research institute will focus on sectors like smart healthcare, the new generation information technology, advanced electronic technology, the internet of things, as well as industrial smart automation.

In addition, it will also be devoted to the cultivation of high-profile talents and enterprises in emerging industries, as well as the promotion of international exchanges.

Huzhou has been stimulating innovation by bringing in research institutes.

Currently, the city has introduced a total of 49 R&D institutions, which it jointly built with universities at home and abroad, among which two have been listed among provincial R&D facilities.
