Changxing and Deqing counties in Huzhou were recently rated as "excellent" in a provincial assessment for garbage sorting in rural areas in Zhejiang in 2020.

A total of 40 counties and districts across the province were conferred the honor by the Zhejiang provincial department of agriculture and rural affairs.

In addition to the provincial title, Changxing was designated a national demonstration county for household garbage sorting and resource utilization in rural areas in August of last year. 

A garbage sorting system has already been applied to all 207 administrative villages within the county. In addition, two treatment centers, one for perishable garbage and the other for other types of garbage, with daily treatment capacities of 350 and 750 metric tons, respectively, have been set up in the county.

In addition, 10 villages in the county have been listed as provincial models for garbage sorting.

Earlier this year, Huzhou was named an "excellent city" in the province in terms of garbage sorting in 2020.

The city saw a year-on-year decrease of 4.31 percent in household waste in 2020, the second year in a row that it reported a decline.
