Huangdu village in Huzhou's Anji county was designated a national model in the nation's campaign to promote the spirit of Lei Feng, a legendary soldier celebrated in China for his selflessness, modesty and dedication.

March 5 is the official remembrance day of this character.

The honor was conferred to Huangdu village for its sustained efforts in helping impoverished areas in western China escape poverty by setting up tea plantations.

In April 2018, the village started donating tea seedlings to impoverished areas in China. As of March 2019, a total of 19 million tea seedlings had been donated by Huangdu, benefiting 34 impoverished villages consisting of 1,862 poverty-stricken households.

The recipients of the tea seedlings are located in Guzhang county in Hunan province, Qingchuan county in Sichuan province, and Pu'an and Yanhe counties in Guizhou province.

Huangdu has also provided technical guidance to these areas. To date, more than 300 cadres and professionals from Anji have been dispatched to poor villages.

In 2020, a total of 3,000 kilograms of tea leaves were harvested by the recipients in spring.
