A man aged above 70 from Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province recently received his driver's license after passing all the tests required.

The man surnamed Gu is the first person over 70 years old from the city to have obtained the driving license after the nation relaxed the age requirements.

In October last year, China abolished the upper age limit of 70 years old for the application of driving licenses for small cars and mopeds.

In addition to the usual tests, applicants aged 70 and above are required to pass an additional test on memory, judgment and reflexes as well as a physical examination, according to regulations.

The additional test is free of charge and is valid for three months. Those who fail can take a make-up test within three months.

"With a driver's license, I can go anywhere I want and I will drive around whenever I can," Gu said.
