Deqing rolls out red carpet for global talents

Deqing county in Huzhou recently announced that it will allocate a fund worth 100 million yuan ($15.38 million) to attract college students to the county.

The fund will be used to help them to find employment, rent houses, and purchase properties in Deqing. 

Local authorities also unveiled a plan to introduce global high-profile professionals and groups who are focused on making technical breakthroughs in its pillar sectors, including geographic information, aerospace, and artificial intelligence.

A head official from the Deqing bureau of science and technology said that local enterprises will be organized to visit prestigious universities in the Yangtze River Delta region in attempts to channel more innovation resources to the county.

In 2020, Deqing's R&D spending accounted for 3.34 percent of its total economic output, ranking second among counties in Zhejiang.

To date, the county is home to 26 national-level talents and 65 provincial-level talents. Last year, it ranked first in the province in terms of the number of people who made the list of national-level talents 

Official data shows that Deqing now houses 275 State-level high-tech enterprises, as well as 883 provincial-level science and technology enterprises, among which 11 have been listed on A-share bourses.

An industrial system featuring three pillar industrial clusters, equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, and green homes, as well as three strategic emerging industries, geographical information, artificial intelligence, and general aviation, has been formed in the county.
