Online retail sales in Huzhou's Wuxing district were valued at 6.14 billion yuan ($944.77 million) in the first two months of this year, making up 62.7 percent of the city's total and ranking ninth in Zhejiang.

The figure also represented a year-on-year increase of 80.6 percent, which was 32.1 percentage points faster than the provincial average over the same period.

This strong growth momentum came after a flurry of measures adopted by local authorities to spur consumption among local residents.

A total of 320,000 coupons with a total face value of 10 million yuan were given out in the district this year to encourage non-local workers to stay in the district over the Spring Festival holiday.

In addition, numerous livestreams were held to promote local commodities. Official data show a total of 3,121 live broadcasts have been held this year to date, garnering 21.14 million viewers and resulting in 238 million yuan in online transactions.

Looking ahead, the local government plans to pursue further growth in sectors such as children's wear and cosmetics by tapping e-commerce opportunities.
