Hukou, or household registration, registered in the Yangtze River Delta, a region encompassing the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shanghai, can now be transferred to Deqing county, Huzhou in a more convenient manner.

Applications can be filed via special windows established by local public security authorities, and the data will be sent back to authorities where the applicant's hukou is registered for review, according to regulations.

The reform has saved a lot of time for applicants, as they previously needed to travel between the two places where the hukou is registered many times.

A man surnamed Jin from Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, completed all procedures required for the hukou transfer in Deqing on April 6.

Jin came to work in Deqing in 2012 and put on hold his plans to transfer his hukou in 2019 due to all the red tape. "I would have to go back to and from my hometown at least four times, which might take me 10 to 15 days," he said.

The one-stop service has greatly improved efficiency, Jin said.
