Nanxun Ancient Town, a national 5A scenic spot in Huzhou's Nanxun district, will be permanently free to enter starting from Jan 18, according to local authorities.

Nevertheless, certain scenic attractions, including Baijianlou and Xiaolianzhuang, in the town will still have admission fees.

To attract more visitors, a wide range of cultural events, including lantern shows, bazaars and concerts, will be staged in the town during the holiday. Discounts will also be offered by restaurants, hotels, gift shops as well as leisure and entertainment service providers.

In addition to Nanxun Ancient Town, 26 other scenic attractions at national 4A level or above in Huzhou will be free to enter every Friday in the first quarter of 2023, the local government announced recently.

The campaign comes as part of efforts to revive the local culture and tourism sector following the easing of the travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Founded in 1252 during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Nanxun Ancient Town is listed among the top six ancient towns in Jiangnan, a region located to the south of the Yangtze River.
