Anji county is located in southwest Huzhou, covering an area of 1,886 square kilometers with a population of 470,000 (2019). It has jurisdiction over eight towns, three villages, and a provincial-level economic development zone.

Located in the geometric center of the Yangtze River Delta economic circle, Anji is an important node in the northwest of Hangzhou's metropolitan economic circle.

Known as the birthplace for the "Two Mountains" Theory – which treats lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets – the mountainous county has been striving to find a new way to achieve sustainable and high-quality development while keeping the environment green.

The county, located in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, was approved in September 2019 as a pilot zone for the successful implementation of the theory by provincial authorities, with ecology being at the forefront.

Anji is the only county in China to be conferred with the UN Human Settlements Program Scroll of Honor. More than 75 percent of the county is covered with lush bamboo and trees. Fun Fact - The Oscar-winning blockbuster Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was filmed in the bamboo gardens of Anji.
