The Daxinggang Sluice, once a vital component of the flood control system of Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has undergone an extraordinary metamorphosis, emerging as a modern landmark in the idyllic countryside.

Standing tall amidst the picturesque landscape, the six-story sluice captivates onlookers with its retro brick-red exterior, beautifully contrasting against the floor-to-ceiling glass and metallic elements. Each floor of this architectural marvel now offers unique features, providing visitors with an awe-inspiring and immersive experience.

"I have never seen a sluice with such exquisite interior design and decoration. It's astonishing and incredibly photogenic. It's also a fantastic place to bring children," exclaimed Yu Chunmei, a visitor.

The second and third floors of the sluice have been transformed into a bookstore, a collaborative project with the local library. With a collection of over 3,000 books available for borrowing, visitors can embark on a literary journey within its walls.

On the fourth floor is a coffee shop, which allows visitors to observe the rise and fall of the sluice gate from the connecting corridor in addition to a cup of coffee.

Moreover, the sluice provides an elevated viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding 2,000 mu (133 hectares) of farmland.

The multi-functional Daxinggang Sluice has quickly gained popularity on social media, becoming a must-visit destination. During peak times, the sluice attracts over 1,500 visitors daily, with the coffee shop alone generating a revenue of 20,000 yuan ($2,803) per day.

The innovative transformation of the Daxinggang Sluice is a result of a fresh approach to open sharing in water conservancy projects. While preserving the sluice's functionality, the surrounding area was transformed as part of a 218-million-yuan pastoral project, breathing new life into the region.

Auxiliary facilities such as campgrounds and a children's castle have emerged as well. Visitors can now indulge in activities like horseback riding and off-road motorcycle adventures. Fei Weiqian, another visitor, said, "The range of offerings is extensive. We often come here with our parents and children, and it's always enjoyable."
