Baotou city's top air quality readings hit record levels

Updated: 2022-03-22

The high air quality from January to February in Baotou city – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – continued to improve on the breakthroughs achieved in 2021, according to data recently released by the Baotou bureau of ecology and environment.

In particular, the number of good days in the city reached a remarkable 100 percent in the month of February, the first time that's been achieved in Baotou since measurements have been taken.

In the period of January to end-February, the proportion of good days was 88.1 percent, an increase of 11.8 percentage points over the same period last year, also a record. Moreover, the concentration of various pollutants was greatly improved, with the benchmark PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants both down about 40 percent year-on-year.

Furthermore, Baotou has fully implemented various air quality assurance measures, with the continuous improvement of air quality as the goal, since the start of the year. The city has also pursued the synergies to be found in pollution reduction and carbon reduction – and what's more, it has made special arrangements for the treatment of pollution sources such as industrial sources, dust sources and mobile sources.

Overall, the sustained and increasing improvement of air quality is said to be the result of the concerted efforts of all districts and departments to tackle difficulties and the participation of the entire community.

Moving forwards, Baotou is expected to continue to focus on its air quality and take measures to improve it.
