A reporter recently accompanied an inspector to Jiuyuan district, Baotou city, to observe the slow-moving laser gas inspection vehicle introduced by Baotou Gas Co.

If there are any traces of natural gas leakage within a 200-meter range of the inspection vehicle, the onboard display screen will immediately display an alert.

According to Ma Yulin, deputy manager of the Kungao Branch of Baotou Gas Co, the laser gas inspection vehicle is mainly responsible for detecting gas pipelines along main roads and sidewalks, buried natural gas pipelines in residential areas, and other gas facility networks in urban areas.

"The device atop the vehicle, resembling a robot, is the laser remote sensing platform. It can detect buried and overhead pipelines with 360-degree, no-dead-angle coverage," explained Ma.

"The horizontal laser blind detection system installed in front of the license plate uses bidirectional laser horizontal scanning to quickly detect and respond to leaks within a 200-meter range. The tassel shaped equipment under the bumper uses pump-suction internal laser spectroscopy technology, capable of directly detecting methane and ethane content in the gas," said Ma.

This system features fast response time and high sensitivity. Ma said that the three systems work together to enhance the effectiveness of gas safety detection, playing an important role in ensuring urban gas safety.
