Recently, the Taicang municipal government made plans to spend three years upgrading Taicang’s beauty in three steps by building a beautiful city, along with towns and villages.

Taicang will spend three years improving its towns. It aims to give every town a commercial street, an ecological industrial park, an ecological agricultural park, a new community and a village. It also plans to reconstruct a village in the city and protect its historical cultural site.

Taicang’s Shaxi town and Liuhe town were selected as demonstration sites of beautiful towns in Suzhou this June. Shaxi will finish the reconstruction of four town-suburb fringe zones, two residential zones, one village in the city, two lanes, 19 roads and two agricultural trade markets this year. It will launch “six promotion projects” to build beautiful villages. Liuhe town plans to take three years to upgrade its industries, improve the environment, restore its ecology and develop people’s livelihoods. By the end of this year, Taicang will complete the construction of 10 beautiful villages.

Taicang will also make efforts to improve the environment of its urban area. By the end of 2015, urban communities will be equipped with strong infrastructure. More than 85 percent of roads will be covered with tree shade, and the green coverage rate will reach up to 40 percent.
