Taicang has made efforts in recent years to focus on the development of port logistics in conjunction with Taicang Port. The ratification of the Taicang Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone brings new opportunities for developing port logistics.

Numerous heavy trucks can often be seen carrying huge steel cylinders to Meijin Wharf on the 338 provincial highway and port expressway. These 20-to-30-meter-long steel cylinders, each weighing over 100 tons with a diameter of over 3 meters, are offshore wind power towers produced by Tianshun Wind Energy Company. Meijing Wharf’s first domestic 800-ton stationary crane will be responsible for handling them. As the latest wharf examined and approved by the Jiangsu government, Meijin Wharf has successfully handled massive pieces of equipment, such as wind power equipment and diesel , the heaviest of which weighs up to 300 tons. Port infrastructure improvements have attracted more than 1,000 port logistics enterprises.

The Taicang Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone was officially ratified this May, becoming a high-level customs special supervision area in Taicang. Based on warehouse logistics, Taicang Port will make efforts to develop advanced manufacturing, logistics trade and a modern logistics system. By 2015, service business is expected to achieve a turnover of 10 billion yuan ($1.64 billion), goods trade volume 100 billion yuan and trading platform transactions 1 trillion yuan.

Taicang Port will build a trade base for staple goods and electromechanical equipment and speed up development of the Bohai Sea Commodity Exchange. It will also introduce more electronic commercial enterprises and develop warehouse logistics, forging a logistics base for e-commerce. Taicang Port endeavors to become a sub-center for global logistics in cooperation with the Shanghai International Shipping Center and a riverside international logistics center in Jiangsu.
