In January 2010, Taicang Science and Education New District was ratified by the Suzhou municipal Party committee and government. In February, the Party working committee and management committee of Taicang Science and Education New District were established. After three years of development, the new district manifests its vitality and uniqueness through upgrade of science, technology and culture industry and aggregation of talents.

The area has changed a lot over the years. In the past, a dusty gravel field stood near the sea transportation dyke, where shabby boats were abandoned along the river. It has been replaced by Tianjinghu Lake Park, which is surrounded by wide and neat roads and green plants. Living in newly-built communities with convenient facilities is quite a pleasure.

In 2004, the first round of overall plans for the new district were released. In 2005, the construction of Jianxiong Vocational Technical College heralded the construction of the new district. The new district really began to take shape five years later as several projects raised its cultural and educational status, including Jianxiong Vocational Technical College, Jiangsu Province Taicang High School and the Taicang Media Centre.

As a virgin land for industrial development, Taicang Science and Education New District has been forging a new path of community and social administration in a new district . It will focus on the modern service industry, accelerate industrial restructuring and upgrading, and foster new sources of economic growth.

Taicang Science and Education New District focuses on innovation, history, culture and ecology. Up to 200 high-tech enterprises and research institutions have settled in Taicang University Science Park, including ZTE, PLU, the Shanghai Institute of Technology and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Computing Technology Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Taicang University Science Park was ratified as a “University Science Park” at the provincial level and “Science and Technology Incubator” at the provincial level. Tianjinghu Lake Culture, Science and Technology Industrial Park was selected among the first, key ratified group of culture, science and technology industrial parks in Jiangsu. Taicang Digital Culture and Creation Industrial Base was selected among the first ratified group of industry-university-research cooperation innovation bases in Jiangsu.

Tianjinghu Lake Park has become a good place for leisure and recreation. Residents can enjoy the beautiful landscape and breathe fresh air here. In the future, the ecological forest belt along Shanghai will provide more access to nature. A non-motorized traffic system, bicycle rental system and energy-saving street lamps will improve living conditions.

Taicang Science and Education New District is going to be a culture, science and technology industrial zone as well as a modern livable city in the near future.
