Ten development highlights in Taicang Port

Taicang has succeeded in developing an efficient, high-quality port this year.

The realization of a harbor

Taicang Port has been a port with the same management and charges with Shanghai Waigaoqiao port area. It is the first inland harbor in China. By the end of this November, the number of ships coming in and out from the port has increased by 23.9 percent year-on-year.

Daily line to Japan

Taicang Port has increased investment to add more lines to Japan and has enlarged the capacity of ships from 2,700 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent unit) to 3,900 TEUs, an increase of 45 percent. It offers daily lines to Japan, reaching eight main ports in the country. The port has 110 shipping lines.

The first port in China to import sophisticated equipment from Japan

Taicang Port can handle roll-on/roll-off ships, allowing shipments of sophisticated Japanese equipment. The port’s cargo throughput reached 120 million tons as of this November, an increase of 7 percent year-on-year. It is expected to reach 130 million tons this year.

Phase-3 container project put into operation

The phase-3 container project is a key port project in Jiangsu province. With a total investment of 3.3 billion yuan ($541.5 million), the province constructed four 50,000-ton container berths with a designed throughput capacity of 2 million TEUs.

Port highway opens

The people’s government of Jiangsu province has invested 1.7 billion yuan to construct a port highway extending from the Shaxi hub of the highway along the Yangtze River to the core container operation area of Taicang Port, covering a length of 15.41 km. It has been open to traffic since Oct 8, connecting Taicang Port to highways in southern Jiangsu and reducing transit time by 15 minutes.

Port receives 3.6 billion yuan in investment

By the end of this November, the port has made direct investment of 3.3 billion yuan, expected to make investment of 3.6 billion yuan this year.

An advanced port with great service

The port has successfully improved its environment and has introduced third-party organizations to evaluate its services. It has been recognized as a “Civilized Port” for five years.

Suzhou Port Plans are approved

This October, the Suzhou Port Plans were approved by the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China and people’s government of Jiangsu province. Taicang Port should focus its service on Jiangsu province, Suzhou and regions along the Yangtze River to transport containers, iron ore and coal. Furthermore, a new operation area was added measuring a length of 3.3 km and serving the manufacturing industries of Taicang.

A low-carbon, energy-saving port in Jiangsu

An investment of 140 million yuan will be provided to carry out a program of energy conservation and emission reduction. The program will save 1,600 tons of standard coal, 600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 12 million yuan in costs every year.

The promotion of economic efficiency in logistics enterprises

Taicang Port has made relevant policies to support enterprises, reducing their logistics costs by 20 million yuan. Seventy-two logistics enterprises in the port have achieved total profits of 2.41 billion yuan and tax revenues of 1.53 billion yuan, an increase of 50.09 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively.
