No fireworks for New Year’s celebration

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: December 13, 2013

The annual Hanshan Temple bell-ringing ceremony to celebrate the coming New Year will be held in Suzhou of Jiangsu province on December 31, 2013.

The fireworks show, once a traditional celebration, has been cancelled this year due to environmental concerns. Instead, electronic fireworks featuring sound, light and electronic displays will greet audiences.

It is the first time the technology will be used in Hanshan Temple.

The parade at Fengqiao Street and the carnival and concert at Jiangfengzhou will be staged as scheduled.

A lover’s event will also be part of the celebration, with 108 couples listening to the bells and welcoming the New Year.
