A Suzhou-style embroidery work featuring deer was sold for 550,000 yuan ($90,856) at a charity auction, said Chen Hongying, who created the work on January 7, 2014.

The work went to space on the manned Shenzhou-9 spacecraft in June 2012. The 550,000 yuan was donated to the China Next Generation Education Foundation.

The 45cm by 30cm work features two cute deer playing by a river and mountains. The deer seem to be talking to the sky. The work aims to embody the theme of environmental protection. The piece consists of thread featuring more than 150 colors. Chen spent 5 months on the piece.

“The auction was held in Beijing. Nearly 200 people joined in. The starting price of the work was 185,000 yuan, and I was confident the price would go above 200,000 yuan. I decided to buy it myself if no one would pay 200,000 yuan. However, I never thought the price would reach 550,000 yuan,” said Chen Hongying.
