chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: January 18, 2014

The Temple of General Yang, located in Xintang village of Taicang’s Liuhe town, completed its reconstruction project, which started March 3, 2011. The rebuilt temple covers an area of 14 acres, four times larger than before. With an investment of over 6 million yuan ($984,908), the temple will promote Taicang’s Taoism culture.

The Temple of General Yang was built to commemorate Yang, a military general of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). The temple has been reconstructed several times since the Qing Dynasty (1636-1911).

In the 1960s, people discovered a stone tablet that recorded details of the temple’s history and reconstruction information. The tablet is now kept in the former residence of Wang Xijue. Taicang will hold a grand opening ceremony for the Temple of General Yang in May or June.
