Beautiful town construction work mainly consists of town renovations, idyllic town modeling, public infrastructure improvements, and long-term management system implementation.

Last year’s objectives included construction of Shaxi and Liuhe town as model towns, improvements to the integrated environment, comprehensively management of important parts of other towns, and initiation of beautiful town construction in a comprehensive way.

Located along Baiyun Road, Punan village in Shaxi is an old village that has both multilayer commercial residential buildings and vast stretches of private houses. It has over 320 total households. Before renewal, Punan village had an aging infrastructure and bad living environment. However, the old village has taken on a entirely new look thanks to comprehensive reconstruction.

The whole village appears to be clean and orderly. Three arterial roads have been paved with asphalt. All the buildings have been painted with dark gray bars on the roof. The household fences look beautiful with grey tiles on top. Yan Xiulan, a private resident, said, “The renovation is really good and considerate.” She told the reporter that houses used to be too old, roads were rough and yards were untidy. After the reconstruction, everything has taken on an entirely new look, providing a pleasant living environment for residents.

During last year’s beautiful town construction, 90 projects were carried out, including the transformation of Punan village. The regulation projects were implemented on a broad scale covering urban fringe areas, streets and lanes, old residential districts, urban villages, river systems and farmer’s markets. At present, all planned projects from last year have been roughly finished.

An office worker for beautiful town construction said the action plan was scheduled to last three years. 2013 was the first year and a key stage to focus on transformation. Renovation in Shaxi and Liuhe significantly improved the living environment. Beautiful town construction was also initiated in a comprehensive way, covering other important parts, key areas and prominent problems.

Statistically, the city's beautiful town construction operation carried out 239 projects last year, including 90 projects in Shaxi, 72 in Liuhe, 20 in Fuqiao, 29 in Huangjing and 28 in Shuangfeng. At present, the annual renovation project tasks have been completed.
