Ivory carvings exhibit at Taicang Museum

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: January 18, 2014

A Suzhou-style ivory carving exhibition is on display at Taicang Museum. The exhibition showcases more than 60 ivory artworks.

Ivory carving, with a history spanning thousands of years, has developed into three styles represented by Suzhou, Guangzhou and Beijing. Suzhou ivory carvings are consummate works, maintaining the cultural characteristics of Southeast China.

In addition, the exhibition displays a piece of glossy and soft ivory woven mat made with ivory flakes less than 0.3 cm wide. The mat, thin as a bamboo skin, is an exquisite handicraft.

The exhibition lasts until Jan 24, during which time the organizers will share knowledge about ivory carvings with visitors and collectors.
